As architects and designers we tend to stray into every field of exploration, which is proven by the diverse portfolio of Brian Harms. A strong interest in digital fabrication and forward thinking design drew F+ to his work. The V-Dress, or voronoi dress, is a cross pollination of architecture, fashion, and digital production. We have touched about upon this topic before, as it seems to have become a growing trend with digital fabrication bridging into high fashion. The V-Dress modular unit that hides the body plays with provocative nature of veiling and revealing the human body. Check it out after the jump!

Today we are checking out AB-USE II Workshop being put on during February 11-15 at the University of Patras. The workshop is going to explore the possibilities through the incorporation of scripting in MEL (Maya Embedded Language) that is being integrated in Autodesk Maya design software. Tan Akinci project is located at the site of Vienna’s Westbahnhof train station at the end point of the commercial center of Mariaholferstreet. Coming out of the same studio a project we showcased earlier Asemic Forest by Shahira Hammad. However instead of contaminating the site, the project pushes to create a public space in which defines the boundaries and flow of the site. However, as is the problem with many scripted projects, we tend to lose a level of spatial relationship and scale to its surrounds. Diagrammatically as you read through the sections you can see the light pull of movement and flow through the project, which builds to dramatic and strong end to with its connection to the street. What is in a French kiss? The simple act is so perverse yet a purely provocative intimate gesture, exactly what Jean Jaminet challenge his second year students to portray. The studio was to design a boutique showroom for French designer Jean Paul Gaultier at Saks Fifth Avenue. The studio was a strong exploration into ornamental surfaces through digital scripting to challenge the orthodox of white box design, the command show by these second year students is intriguing. As most of you are packing up studio for the summer, we are bringing you a summer workshop by X|A studio presented to us at F+ by Nefeli Chatzimina. In the realm of academic architecture we are allowed to live on the brink of sci-fi architecture through the discourse of cutting edge digital production. The workshop is an exploration into complex geometric variations. Check it out after the jump and register today!

Today we bring you a graduate thesis project by Ivan Bernal of SCIArch. Familiar Primitive makes and argument for reverting to “primitive” imagery and geometry to generate formal and programmatic relationships in architecture. It is interesting to see a proposal that embraces its context in an urban ruin; We’re getting pretty tired of seeing proposals for “modern” architecture as having pristine, shiny surfaces that apparently never get dirty or crack.
Bringing you our first project from Georgia Tech School of Architecture, home of the one and only Dean Alan Balfour, designed by Rachel Dickey. The design investigation takes on the challenge of dissecting and understanding the structural integrity of a birds nest. Through this breakdown comes a creative blend between the veiling and reveling of space through structure framing interior and exterior space. Check it out after the jump!
